This is where we will chronicle the history of the comic book, GODS AND GEARS. Where it came from. Where it is. And where it's going.
This first installment takes us back to the very start. I wanted to sell prints at comic cons of characters I owned, not other's creations. This lead to three ideas- DEATH BETTY, DRIVER AND SHOTGUN, and DROP IN. Death Betty would eventually become a comic book(avaialable on Comicxology for a buck an issue!). Drop In would eventually become future surf star, Rip Rider. And the idea of a dynamic duo, stunt racing type, known as Driver And Shotgun, would eventually become the basis for the hit all-ages-action-adventure-Alterna comics title, Gods And Gears.
But I've gotten ahead of myself. I wanted prints to sell so prints I made. I asked my friend and studio mate, inker Joe Weems to ink over my pencils of the next hit duo, Driver And Shotgun.
Then our good friend, creator of La Mano Del Destino, J Gonzo, decided to colorize the image and a new set of prints were born in 2012-2013. The idea of the comic started bubbling up as people at the cons would aks about the characters. Intrigued by the imagery and character names, they wanted to know more...and so did I. It didn't take long for the characters to start chiming in as to what they thought their path would be. They overtook my imagaination. Their world started to take form in my dreams and my sketch books.
I knew what the next step would be...but that's for next time.
Thank you for reading. Enjoy the art.
