Is REALITY-BASED Fiction Too Controversial for Present Day?
A chat with Rob Geronimo about the current climate of self-censorship in storytelling, the hypocrisy of cancel culture, and the use of historical events in fictional works.
Today, many have a skewed sense of "reality". A lot of people are highly misinformed because we now have adults that believe everything they see on TV, especially adults, without question. Like, come on! These networks cannot be trusted--for they sell you the concept of "reality" TV, yet these shows are scripted & improvised--it's far from "real"! People need to ask themselves: why do you think TV stations call what they broadcast "programming"? This is why elitists on mainstream platforms shut people down now: the everyday man now can post videos that aren't doctored of particular instances to give a true prospective of what people have said & done. So, if put things in such mediums as comics, it can become one sided, for the majority of today's comic writers, mainly at DC, Marvel & IDW, have an agenda. The days of thought-provoking & open ended presentation of social issues, which were well executed in a classic comic such as Green Lantern/Green Arrow no longer exists.
This week I've scanned the TV & saw on some show, they are wearing masks. This pandemic has been quite aggravating. As with forced political dialogue, one grows tired of having things which are impacting our daily lives infest entertainment: we indulge in tv/films to escape negative situations stemming from our existence. Also, wearing masks in a film/TV will certainly out date them.
Today, people now perform self-oppression. They also bow to group-think. Many that are in industries do this both out of fear & to make money. This makes sensible people wonder just how sincere these individuals are.
Rock N Roll used to be shocking, went against authority, ground breaking & most of what they present within their arts pushed the envelope. Today, many classic, long-running career musicians now publicly express conformity--which goes against the fabric of what they expressed in the past AND made them rich & successful in the first place!
This garbage today such as a black must voice a black cartoon character or only a gay person must portray a gay person in a film is ludicrous. Superman flies, Wolverine has blades protrude his fists & Spider-Man clings to walls--guess NOBODY should DARE portray these characters in film, for there's yet been any humans out there that have such powers! When you're acting, you are 99.5% of the time in the role of PRETENDING to be another character, rather than yourself!
As for Gina, the Mandalodian actress? Disney firing her for her social media post simply made what she tweeted FACT!
In regards to the movie, "They Live"? John Carpenter is such a hypocrite, stating how he loathed Reganomics & Capitalism. HELLO! This is the same guy that created Halloween films & the character Michael Myers! This dude has made millions from licensing the likeness of this character to be put on thousands of items such as t-shirts, buttons, hats, posters, action figures, lunch boxes, coffee mugs--it's endless!
He indulges in the exact thing he claims to despise....
I sadly agree. Carpenter is one of my biggest "separate the art from the artist" experiences I've ever had. I enjoy a lot of his work but sometimes he doesn't make it easy! haha
@Publishin' Pete! I love music. I enjoy collecting albums, autographs, going to shows & meeting artists. But I'll also be the first person to tell you the majority of them are some of the scummiest people out there. It makes me laugh how so many of them have engaged in drug use, drunk driving resulting in killing people, have gone to jail, cheated on spouses then expect us to listening to them regarding politics & social issues?
The biggest hypocrisy are musicians crying about global warming and fossil fuels. Who engages the most in pollution, waste & oil base products than touring musicians? For months at a time they are flying around in private jets, riding around in the buses & limos, using pyrotechnics during shows & causing with their tours massive traffic jams--thousands driving to their shows, tons of waste produced from food wrappers, paper cups & , napkins, plastic bottles being consumed at their shows? Not to mention cds, cassettes & vinyl records are made from plastics & paper products!
Yet these are the name people who want to ban regular folk from driving a car to and from their jobs!
With that, I try my best to separate the person from their talent & their ignorance on particular issues.
Thanks for having me, Peter!
This is how I see this as a problem:
